Vinton G. Cerf is vice president and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google. He is responsible for identifying new enabling technologies and applications on the Internet and other platforms for the company.
Widely known as a "Father of the Internet," Vint is the co-designer with Robert Kahn of TCP/IP protocols and basic architecture of the Internet. In 1997, President Clinton recognized their work with the U.S. National Medal of Technology. In 2005, Vint and Bob received the highest civilian honor bestowed in the U.S., the Presidential Medal of Freedom. It recognizes the fact that their work on the software code used to transmit data across the Internet has put them "at the forefront of a digital revolution that has transformed global commerce, communication, and entertainment." From 1994-2005, Vint served as Senior Vice President at MCI. Prior to that, he was Vice President of the Corporation for National Research Initiatives (CNRI), and from 1982-86 he served as Vice President of MCI. During his tenure with the U.S. Department of Defense's Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) from 1976-1982, Vint played a key role leading the development of Internet and Internet-related data packet and security technologies.
Since 2000, Vint has served as chairman of the board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and he has been a Visiting Scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory since 1998. He served as founding president of the Internet Society (ISOC) from 1992-1995 and was on the ISOC board until 2000. Vint is a Fellow of the IEEE, ACM, AAAS, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the International Engineering Consortium, the Computer History Museum and the National Academy of Engineering. Vint has received numerous awards and commendations in connection with his work on the Internet, including the Marconi Fellowship, Charles Stark Draper award of the National Academy of Engineering, the Prince of Asturias award for science and technology, the Alexander Graham Bell Award presented by the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf, the A.M. Turing Award from the Association for Computer Machinery, the Silver Medal of the International Telecommunications Union, and the IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal, among many others.
He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA and more than a dozen honorary degrees.
Alan KayViewpoints Research Institute
Dr. Alan Kay is one of the earliest pioneers of object-oriented programming, personal computing, and graphical user interfaces. His contributions have been recognized with the Charles Stark Draper Prize of the National Academy of Engineering 1 “for the vision, conception, and development of the first practical networked personal computers,” the Alan. M. Turing Award from the Association of Computing Machinery “for pioneering many of the ideas at the root of contemporary object-oriented programming languages, leading the team that developed Smalltalk,and for fundamental contributions to personal computing,” and the Kyoto Prize from the Inamori Foundation “for creation of the concept of modern personal computing and contribution to its realization.” This work was done in the rich context of ARPA and Xerox PARC with many talented colleagues. While at the ARPA project at the University of Utah in the late 60s, he invented dynamic object-oriented programming2, was part of the original team that developed continuous tone 3D graphics, was the co-designer of the FLEXMachine3, an early desktop computer with graphical user interface and object-oriented operating system, participated in the design of the ARPAnet, and inspired by children4, conceived the Dynabook, a laptop personal computer for children of all ages.
At the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center in the Early 70's he invented Smalltalk, the first completely object-oriented programming, authoring and operating system (which included the now ubiquitous overlapping window interface), instigated the bit-map screen, screen painting and animation, participated in desk-top publishing, other desk-top media, and the development of the Alto1, the first modern networked personal computer. This was part of the larger process at PARC that created an entire genre of personal computing including: the GUI, Ethernet, Laser printing, modern word processing,client-servers and peer-peer networking.
He has a BA in Mathematics and Biology with minor concentrations in English and Anthropology from the University of Colorado, 1966. MS and PhD degrees in Computer Science (1968 and 1969, both with distinction) from the University of Utah,and Honorary Doctorates from the Kungl Tekniska Hoegskolan in Stockholm, Sweden, Columbia College in Chicago, Georgia Tech, the University of Pisa in Italy and the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.
He has been elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Royal Society of Arts, the Association for Computing Machinery, and the Computer History Museum.
At Viewpoints Research Institute he and his colleagues continue to explore advanced systems and programming design by aiming for a “Moore’s Law” advance in software creation of many orders of magnitude. Kay and Viewpoints are also deeply involved in the One Laptop Per Child initiative that seeks to create a Dynabook-like “$100 laptop” for every child in the world (especially in the 3rd world).

John Seely Brown (often called JSB) is a visiting scholar and advisor to the Provost at University of Southern California (USC) and the Co-Chairman of the Deloitte’s Center for the Edge. Prior to that he was the Chief Scientist of Xerox Corporation and the director of its Palo Alto Research Center (PARC)—a position he held for nearly two decades. John serves on several boards of directors of major public companies like Amazon, Corning, and Varian Medical Systems as well as on numerous private boards of directors.
He has published over 100 papers in scientific journals and co-authored the acclaimed book "The Social Life of Information" (HBS Press, 2000) that has been translated into 9 languages. He also co-authored the book "The Only Sustainable Edge" which is about new forms of collaborative innovation and "The Power of Pull: how small moves, smartly made can set big things in motion" and his new book on "The New Culture of Learning" was released in January 2011. Peter LevineVenture partner at Andreessen Horowitz
Peter Levine is a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz. Prior to Andreessen Horowitz, he was the CEO of XenSource, the leading provider of open source virtualization solutions. XenSource was acquired by Citrix Systems in 2007 and following the acquisition, he became the SVP and general manager of the Data Center and Cloud Division at Citrix.
Prior to XenSource, Peter was a managing director at Mayfield, where he had the opportunity to develop my skills and insights as a professional investor. Before Mayfield, Peter spent over a decade at Veritas Software, where I started as an engineer when the company was just a handful of people. Eleven years later, the company was doing $1.5B in revenue and had nearly 6,000 people. At that time, he was one of three executive vice presidents, responsible for OEM Sales, Marketing, M&A, the Veritas venture fund and several platform development groups.
Peter has a real interest in blending the strategic and operational aspects of building an organization and view myself as a coach to the entrepreneurs I serve. His return to venture capital reflects this interest.
Beyond venture, Peter spends part of his time teaching at the Stanford GSB. When not teaching or spending time with entrepreneurs, you might find him with my kids or out climbing, hiking or cycling. He is an avid ice climber and mountaineer, and has a goal to hike or climb to the highest point in every state in the US. He has been on numerous mountaineering expeditions around the world and often compare these trips to building a company.

Sanjay is President of Technology and Innovation Products for SAP, responsible for SAP’s Mobile, Analytics, Database and Technology Solutions. Poonen is a member of the leadership teams for both Global Customer Operations and Technology & Innovation Products. He joined SAP in 2006 as executive vice president and general manager of Performance Optimization Applications for SAP. He led this business from its inception, helping drive solutions to the market-leading position that SAP has today. Poonen also served as executive vice president and general manager of Business Analytics, Line of Business Solution Sales.
Before joining SAP, Poonen served as Vice President of Line of Business Operations at Symantec. There he drove the merger integration of VERITAS and Symantec. Before the merger, Poonen was Vice President of Strategic Operations at VERITAS, with responsibility for strategic OEM accounts, driving new platform deals with partners like HP, IBM, and Sun.
Poonen holds a master's degree in business administration from Harvard Business School; a master's degree in management science and engineering from Stanford University; and a bachelor's degree in computer science and math and engineering from Dartmouth College, where he graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta.

Prith Banerjee is Managing Director of Global Technology Research and Development at Accenture. In his role, he oversees the Accenture Technology Labs, the global technology R&D organization within Accenture which explores new and emerging technologies, and directs Accenture’s annual Technology Vision research, which looks at the future of enterprise IT. Previously, he was Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President of ABB, a power and automation company in Zurich, Switzerland. Earlier, he was Senior Vice President of Research at HP and Director of HP Labs. Formerly, he was Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Formerly, he was the Walter P. Murphy Professor and Chairman of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Northwestern University. Prior to that, he was Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
In 2000, he founded AccelChip, a developer of products for electronic design automation, which was sold to Xilinx Inc. in 2006. During 2005-2011, he was Founder, Chairman and Chief Scientist of BINACHIP Inc., a developer of products in electronic design automation. He is the author of about 350 research papers in journals and conferences. He has also supervised 37 Ph.D. students. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Cray, and the Technical Advisory Board of Cypress. In the past, he has served on board for the Anita Borg Institute, the Computer Science Board of the National Academy of Engineering, and the Technical Advisory Boards of Ambit, Atrenta and Calypto. He was listed in the FastCompany list of 100 top business leaders in 2009. He is a Fellow of the AAAS, ACM and IEEE, and a recipient of the 1996 ASEE Terman Award and the 1987 NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award. He received a B.Tech. Dr. Theresa Maldonado is the Division Director of Engineering Education and Centers (EEC) in the Directorate for Engineering at the National Science Foundation (NSF). The EEC Division integrates basic research from multiple disciplines into strategic frameworks critical to addressing societal grand challenges and to promoting innovation. The research portfolio supported by EEC spans both the physical and the life sciences and engineering, from nano structured materials to new device concepts, subsystems, and systems. Applications range across a wide spectrum, including energy, medicine, telecommunications, nano electronics, manufacturing, civil infrastructure, the environment, computer networks, cyber security, and others. Also included are formal scholarly studies in engineering education and on how people learn.
Dr. Maldonado earned the Ph.D., M.S.E.E., and B.E.E. with Highest Honors degrees in Electrical Engineering, all from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and she is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the NSF Presidential Young Investigator award in 1991 in support of her work in electro-optics and nonlinear optics as well as the Halliburton Award for Teaching Excellence (1992) and the Halliburton Award for Outstanding Young Faculty (1993), both from the College of Engineering at UTA. Lenny Mendonca is a director (senior partner) in the Washington D.C. and San Francisco offices of McKinsey & Company, a global management consulting firm. Lenny is currently the leader of McKinsey’s U.S. state and local public sector practice.
